Reader’s theater (RT) is often defined by what it is not — no memorizing, no props, no costumes, no sets. It involves children reading through reading parts in scripts. It emphasizes on imagination and oral expression on the parts. As children read, perform and interpret their roles they acquire a better understanding of the literature.

What do the teachers expect from the children in the competition?
老師們在比賽中希望看到學生怎麼樣的表現呢？
The teachers would love to see the children having fun during their practice. With both parental and teacher guidance, the students will be able to imitate natural speech from the provided links, express their emotional interpretation of the story, add their own interpretation to the text, enjoy time spent practicing with their friends, and not just focusing on the results.
所有的比賽都只是一種讓孩子們能夠享受學習過程的方式。最終的目的希望孩子在練習的過程中，藉由家長以及老師們的引導，能夠感受劇本中的情感，模仿自然的英語語調，加入自己創意的表現，享受與同學們練習的過程，而不只是在意比賽的成績結果。
所有的比賽都只是一種讓孩子們能夠享受學習過程的方式。最終的目的希望孩子在練習的過程中，藉由家長以及老師們的引導，能夠感受劇本中的情感，模仿自然的英語語調，加入自己創意的表現，享受與同學們練習的過程，而不只是在意比賽的成績結果。

Yes. The students may not have heard what RT is, but the teachers have always coached classes in reciting the sentences and short paragraphs with proper intonation and appropriate rhythm. It is a part of language teaching that can not be neglected. To prepare the students for RT competition, the English teachers will introduce the following

2) How their performance will be evaluated
3) Recordings of past good performances.

How can I apply for the RT competition?

Unlike English speech and recital contests, RT contestants can only apply as a class, one team per class. According to the regulations of Taipei City English Competition, there can only be 8 to 20 contestants per team. Less or more students will not be accepted to apply or to compete on stage. This year, only 4th and 5th grade students will be able to apply for the RT competition.

How can I find a RT script?
如何找到RT的劇本？
Wenhua teachers have already chosen 4 selected scripts on the website. There are also audio and video resources of how the story can be performed and how other students interpreted the story. You may choose one story and add your own interpretation to it. If you don’t like any of them, you can discuss with your parents and teachers to have your own choice.

According to the regulations of Taipei City English Competition, the performance shall be limited within 3~5 minutes.
